The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) and the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) are reviewing its standard documents to see if current CCDC language will provide relief to construction companies that have seen costs rise as a result of tariffs on goods imported from the United States.
On July 1, Canada imposed tariffs on a range of American goods imported to Canada, which includes a 25 percent tariff on American-made steel and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum. The tariffs were in response to the United States no longer exempting Canada from US duties of 25 percent on steel and 10 per cent on aluminum made outside the United States.
VRCA asked CCA to review the CCDC contract language after hearing member concerns about the effect of Canadian tariffs during July’s Division Meetings.
VRCA also asked CCA to develop a qualifying statement that members can include with their bids to communicate uncertainty of pricing to owners.
VRCA will share this guidance with members when it becomes available.
