Business development skills were one of the most in-demand topics identified in VRCA’s recent education needs assessment. In response to this, VRCA will be adding two new courses to its education calendar that will help you to grow or enhance your business.

Responding Successfully to a Request for Proposal is a two-day workshop scheduled for May 29 and 30. Answering a request for proposal (RFP) effectively requires knowledge, understanding and a proposed solution of the subject, while convincing the owner that your company is best-suited to build their project. This course will teach participants the differences between an RFP and the traditional bidding process, how to analyze an owner’s requirements, how RFPs are evaluated, and how best to address the criteria presented. The second new course is called Close Out of a Construction Project and will take place on May 31. This one-day workshop will teach participants best practices when closing out a construction project and how to transition a project from contractor to owner. This course will discuss how upholding the principles of organization, teamwork and communication assist in achieving a successful project close out. Both of these courses will be taught by Lee Kelly of Constructing Minds. Lee has 30 years of experience in the construction industry and was recently awarded The Construction Institute of Canada Chancellor’s Award of Excellence.
